Product: 2014 Panini Prizm World Cup
Break Date: May 24, 2014
Hit Breakdown: No guaranteed hits
Summary: I didn't plan on breaking any of the Panini World Cup stuff, but when I saw the hangers in the card aisle at Target, I got sucked in. Each hanger box had six packs of four cards for $19.99.
I grew up a soccer fan, so this was a pretty fun break. The autograph checklist is downright absurd, frankly - every possible big name is there. I knew an auto would be a near impossible pull, since they're not even guaranteed out of a hobby box and Panini retail is a stingy beast. But, I figured what the heck - it was worth a shot.
All told, it was a fun break. A decent chunk of colored Prizm parallels surfaced, from red and gold pulsars to a red and blue plaid thing.
But, no big names to speak of - no Messi, Ronaldo, Neymar, etc. - out of the base or the inserts. The cards look great, and the inserts are really impressive - especially the Aerial Assault set, a landscape-oriented photo of a header.
I'd give the product itself a B+, simply because there are a lot of chase cards but it's a tough pull on the auto front. This break, though, is nothing more than a C+, because while I did pull some nice parallels, none were numbered, and none were anyone that I was that interested in.
