2014-15 Prestige basketball hanger box

Sport:  Basketball
Product:  2014-15 Prestige hanger box
Break Date:  October 30, 2014
Hit Breakdown:   One Mystery Rookie per box
Summary:  So Prestige Hangers have gotten a lot of buzz out of the gate, mostly for one reason - the acetate Mystery Rookie cards that come one per box. So, I figured, what the heck? I'll take a shot.

On the one hand, the Mystery cards are really, really sharp looking. On the other? The cards themselves fall short of the rest of the Prestige releases.

First and foremost is the base card quality. Where the Plus cards are silver foil, these are standard white card stock. Then, they're printed on much cheaper paper. The Plus cards are thicker and heftier, which is nice. I can't speak to how the Premium cards are, but the Hanger cards are definitely lesser quality than the Plus.

Secondly, where I know most people don't drop $60 on retail with frequency, from a purely cost-per-hit standpoint, I think it's a better buy to go for the Plus box, where you know you're getting three hits and a good chunk of numbered cards than to spend $10 and pull a low-end second round rookie card and HOPEFULLY a nice numbered card.

The Mystery Rookies, though, are pretty sweet. It would be nice to have pulled a bigger name, but that's the gamble when you are basically pinning your hopes on one card out of a batch of 60 or so rookies.
