Product: 2013 Topps Chrome
Break Date: December 21, 2013
Hit Breakdown: One autograph
Summary: I really didn't want to purchase a box of Chrome at the card show this past weekend – honest! I've opened several blasters, and since the rookie class this year is mediocre, it was a risky proposition.
But, I have a hard time saying no, and Chrome has been a pretty strong product for the most part this year - most packs have a parallel at the very least. So, with a reasonable price on the table, it was too hard to turn down.
After opening all the packs, I can say it was a decent break. Nothing too exciting, but I've certainly seen much worse.
The one auto was Ryan Nassib - the refractor version numbered to 150. The kid has been the scout team QB all year and has yet to take a snap in a game, but at least he's a QB. But, while Eli Manning has been a disaster this season, it's unlikely that he would be supplanted as starter unless next year looks like this one.
There was a Geno Smith photo variation, which is a nice card, and there certainly were a ton of refractor parallels - a Prism /260, Sepia /99, Pink /399, Camo /499, and Blue Wave (along with a slew of base refractors).
While it would have been great to pull a nicer auto than the Nassib, it certainly could have been considerably worse, and with the Smith SP, the box turned out to be worth the cost.
I just need to walk away from Chrome now.
