2013-14 Prizm Basketball Blaster/Value Packs x 2

Sport:  Basketball
Product:  2013-14 Prizm Basketball
Break Date:  December 29, 2013
Hit Breakdown:  blaster - no guaranteed hits; Value Packs - three red/white/blue Mosaic Prizm
Summary:  I hadn't read any reviews of 2013-14 Prizm Basketball before I picked up a blaster and two Value Packs at Target yesterday. Had I done so in advance, my purchase would have been different.

It's obvious that the message board public already knows that the way to go with retail Prizm is the Value Pack - with three guaranteed red/white/blue Mosaic inserts, you're getting decent return out of the gate. My purchase only further hammered home that point.

The first Value Pack - each of which has three packs of four cards and the pack of RW&B parallels - I opened produced decent return for sure. The red foil pack included the RW&B cards, and they were pretty solid - a Bradley Beal, John Wall, and Reggie Bullock rookie. These cards look really nice - the below scan does them no justice.

The second pack had a card flipped backwards, so I saved that for last, figuring it was a hit - and sure enough it was. The parallel autos look really nice, and this Phil Pressey rookie auto was serial-numbered to 99. A nice card for sure!

The second value pack was pretty solid as well, with a really sweet red Prizm Scottie Pippen.

The blaster, though was a disappointment comparatively speaking. Where the packs out of the Value Packs basically had one Prizm per pack, the packs in the blaster were pretty dry. There were only two colored parallels, and there was one insert. And, there was one green and one red in each value pack; the blaster only had two reds.

Overall, it seems to be a better buy to go with the Value Packs, because at least at writing, there's really strong resale value on the RW&B parallels.
