2013-14 Prizm Basketball Value Packs x 4

Sport:  Basketball
Product:  2013-14 Prizm Basketball
Break Date:  December 30, 2013
Hit Breakdown:  three red/white/blue Mosaic Prizm
Summary:  With the luck out of the 13/14 Prizm Value Packs that I had and the consistent hits that seem to be going around, I went back to the well - my wife went on a Target run, and I had her pick up four more.

I opened each of the packs, and made two neat little stacks - the regular packs on one side, and the four red packs of the Mosaics on the other - figured I'd save those for last.

It's clear at this point that with the three packs in each Value Pack, you're going to get one Red Prizm and one Green Prizm. That pattern went on my last break, and held true for this one as well.

The Reds were fairly strong - two rookies (Ryan Kelly and Cody Zeller), and two "legends," although calling Lucius Allen, whom I've never heard of, a legend, may be a stretch. Manute Bol was the other legend, and he's a legend for so many, many reasons - his ice hockey career near the top of that list.

The Green Prizms were a little less forgiving. Kevin Garnett is obviously a nice pull, but the rest were mediocre. And, still no green rookies yet.

The HRX cards were solid enough - Michael Carter-Williams was one. But, they show up in every pack, and QR codes are dumb...no one scans them. These would be better if they were a bit harder to pull. But, I now have about ten Erik Murphy HRX rookies, and while I collect Florida Gator alum, no one on the planet except for maybe Murphy's parents needs this many HRX Erik Murphy cards. I did also pull an MCW base rookie, which is a solid card. However, there were no inserts, so the tally on pulling those out of retail stands at one card out of 25 packs.

On to the Mosaics...

These, yet again, were pretty solid. There were two "big" hits, relatively speaking - Damian Lillard and Nerlens Noel.

Otherwise, the cards were pretty nice. Jason Kidd (in a uniform, not a coach's suit), Brook Lopez, Ty Lawson...a bunch of good players and bench guys.

At the end of the break, the Noel paid for the whole lot (and then some), and I still think the Mosaics are really nice looking cards. At the moment, retail is seeming to be really strong in bang for your buck, but it does remain to be seen how long the demand for the retail-only Prizms holds up.
