2012-13 Panini Basketball hobby box

Sport:  Basketball
Product:  2012-13 Panini
Break Date:  November 27, 2013
Hit Breakdown:  Two autographs
Summary:  Panini's base basketball set for  2012-13 was a nice low-end product. The cards look decent, and the photography is solid. From a price standpoint, it was a good value buy.

We were at Target doing a little last-minute Thanksgiving shopping, and I wandered by the card aisle. There, they had a stack of six hobby boxes of the product. I've seen people on message boards talk about how they get hobby boxes at big box retail outlets, but I've never seen any at our local spots.

The price – $59.99 – wasn't great. But, I couldn't resist because it's an addiction. So, I walked out with the box.

Panini guarantees two autographs out of the box, and there were two autographs - a redemption for Tyler Honeycutt (who's not in the NBA at the moment), and a Rated Rookie Terrence Jones, numbered to 49. The Jones is a nice card, but nothing overly exciting.

The box did contain the case hit – a short-printed die-cut Knights of the Round Dwyane Wade. It's a good looking card, but I'd have rather had a nicer auto.

On the whole, the box is a solid value - you're going to get a ton of base rookies (the box had Kyrie, Lillard, and two Anthony Davis RCs), a handful of inserts, and a few autos. For the low-end collector, it' a good buy, but because of the dual rookie class in 12/13 Panini products, your chances of pulling a mediocre auto are good.
