2013 Topps Chrome Football blaster

Sport:  Football
Product:  2013 Topps Chrome
Break Date:  November 24, 2013
Hit Breakdown:  No guaranteed hits
Summary:  Topps Chrome football blasters finally showed up in Memphis retail outlets, so I picked one up while doing a little holiday shopping. I've done a lot of retail breaking in the last year or so, but this was one for the ages.

Front-end cost was $19.99 for eight packs, or "seven plus one bonus pack," as the box copy reads. Not quite sure why they don't just say eight packs. It also guarantees a rookie card in every pack.

The break started well enough - a refractor of some random rookie in the first pack, and an X-fractor Jordan Reed in the second.

Things heated up from there. I opened the third pack, and one of the cards was turned backwards...that generally signifies a nice hit. There were a couple of veterans, and a Mike Glennon rookie....and then there was this:

The Pink BCA Refractor auto, serial-numbered 70 out of 75. It's in pristine shape, centered fairly well, and a really nice auto. Pack odds read 1 out of every 1,285 packs - probably the nicest hit I've ever pulled out of retail.

It was all gravy from there out. There was also a blue refractor Eli Manning (1:68 packs), a Rookie Die-Cut Eddie Lacy (1:24 packs), and a few other retro rookies (another Lacy).

All in all, this was a huge blaster! Topps Chrome is really nice this year. While the rookie class is fairly weak compared to last year's remarkable class, Eddie Lacy looks like an absolute beast, so pulling a few of his parallel rookies was nice, but the auto was just remarkable considering it came from a blaster.

Grade for the product:  A-
Grade for the break:  A+
